I had been waiting for wind for a while and the staff had myself and others ont the "CALL LIST" for when the winds were right. JP was researching the weather and called me and another person when the forecasted wind was good. As it was october I had to borrow a wetsuit. Classes are 2 persons alternating each technique and skill. It was a busy kite day at 28.5 sullivan's island. When not practicing our skills we could see others using the sklls we were learning. Class was about 2hr 45 min.
What we covered (in sequence):
weather analysis prior to set up, kite set up, ground launch and recovery as both the controller and catcher, water launch, water relaunch after crash, body drag in left/right/downwind directions, getting in and out of the water with the kite airborne, walking backwards with kite airborne, self rescue. All this was accomplished with JP. Then he had us (2 students) go through setup, launch, drag, etc to gain confidence for when there is no instructor present. JP is a very professional instructor who obviously loves the sport. He was good at pointing out what was obvious to him that wasn't so obvious to us. Besides the skills we learned a big takeaway is to be courteous to others on the beach and think about their safety as well as your own. It's a great sport where new safety mechanisms are only as good as the operator's ability. I would recommend this course before attempting to "get in the way" of others at the beach beacuse if the wind is good then you definitely won't be the only one present.

PS: unwritten beach rule we found out about later. If you wear a wet suit then wear your board shorts over the setsuit. Besides the lack of skill this is another dead give awya as a baby kiter.
